H1N1 (Swine) Flu Information Dear Parents/Guardians, Robertson County Schools would like to continue to offer reassurance by letting you know the district is monitoring the H1N1 (Swine) flu closely and is complying with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Guidelines. There are NO confirmed cases in Robertson County at this time. If there is a suspected or confirmed case, the district will work closely with the Dept of ED, CDC, and Local Health Dept. regarding school closures and/or what actions to take. The CDC has Guidelines already set forth for schools in the event this occurs. There are also guidelines for afterschool programs and daycares as well. Mr. Dan Whitlow, Director of Schools, will communicate with appropriate authorities if the need arises. For more information, you may visit www.cdc.gov and click swine flu link. Parents/Guardians should give thought and develop an alternate plan for childcare in the event schools are closed. If there were to be a confirmed case of this flu, the CDC recommends school closure for a minimum of 7 days. The CDC is constantly updating and revising guidelines for school closures and this recommendation is subject to change. However, Robertson County Schools wants you to be prepared for alternate Childcare arrangements should the need arise. Also, if you are not currently receiving phone messages through the School Reach call system, please contact the school your student attends to provide contact numbers. The School Reach call system plays an important role in keeping you updated with important information. The following information is being provided by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) about the Swine Flu. If your student develops the following symptoms, please seek medical attention and notify your school nurse of any suspected or confirmed cases: Fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills, diarrhea, vomiting, and/or fatigue. There are everyday actions people can take to stay healthy. Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it. Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hands cleaners are also effective. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way. Try to avoid close contact with sick people. Influenza is thought to spread mainly person-to-person through coughing or sneezing of infected people. If you get sick, CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them. As always, it is the goal of Robertson County Schools to maintain a safe and healthy environment. We will continue to monitor the CDC website and work closely with our local health department as needed in the event the Swine Flu reaches Tennessee. Please visit www.cdc.gov for further information. If any questions or concerns, you may reach Dana Holt, RN, BSN Coordinator of School Nursing at 615-382-3606. |
