Collaborative Planning -- Early Dismissal

Some news about six planned early dismissal dates in our school calendar.

Parents:

We are extremely excited about the start of this school year in Robertson County!  We trust that the beginning of the school year has been very smooth for your student.

As you know, last year students in Robertson County achieved some of the highest test scores in all tested areas.  Our writing scores, elementary & middle school TCAP scores, high school Gateway scores, and our ACT scores all continue upward trends.  We are extremely proud of our students.  We are also proud of the work of our teachers and staff, and the commitments they have made to focus on instructional practices.  We believe that some of our success can be attributed to the ability of our staff to work together in collaborative teams.

This year, the State of Tennessee has raised the standards and expectations at every grade level.  Our teachers and staff have been working diligently to prepare for the changes that these new expectations will bring.

In order to allow our teachers and staff time to work together, school will dismiss one hour early six times throughout the upcoming school year.  These dates will allow teachers to work together in collaborative teams in order to study student work, monitor student progress, and develop best instructional practices to be used in their classrooms.

On the dates listed below, schools will dismiss students exactly 1 hour earlier than their normal dismissal time.

  • September 2
  • October 21
  • December 16
  • January 27
  • March 10
  • April 28

This affects all students dismissing at the end of the school day, including those kindergarten students who stay at school until the end of the school day to ride a bus home or ride a car home with older siblings. Kindergarten students who are picked up at the early kindergarten dismissal time are not affected and will be dismissed from school at their normal time.

Thank you,
